A public hearing before the regular meeting discussed the proposed Sugar Ridge Subdivision, Phase 1, owned by developer Robert Daigle and located off of Hwy. 89 South (Guillot Road) in Youngsville. The Youngsville City Council adopted Ordinance No. 342 on Nov. 10, 2011, that established lot sizes for residential developments to be 7,500 square feet with a front lot size of 60 feet. Youngsville Mayor Wilson Viator stated that Ordinance No. 342 needs to be revisited. He will hold a meeting to work on formulating a plan that will work for everyone, he said. The Traditional Neighborhood Plan will remain in place.
Two bids on Hwy. 92 and the Bonin Road roundabout beautification were received. Landscaping Concern Inc. bid $108,638 with the low bidder, Grass Roots Inc., being awarded the contract at $82,146. Work begins Feb. 1 with completion scheduled for 90 working days.
Some residents of Copperfield Subdivision submitted a petition attempting to block the re-installation of a three-way stop sign at Copperfield Way and Woodstock Drive, claiming that two years ago the issue of speeding traffic on Copperfield Way was addressed when the City placed a speed bump near the subdivision entrance. A traffic radar trailer was placed in the location for five days. Police Chief Earl Menard said, “As soon as the police unit leaves the area speeders resume their bad behavior.”
The Council voted 4-1 in favor of the three-way stop sign to be re-installed.
The Council amended the City’s Waste Management garbage contract, allowing Waste Management to charge more if residents own more than one garbage cart. The City of Youngsville and Waste Management will conduct a residential survey to determine who has multiple carts. The City will bill customers an additional $10 per month for the additional cart. Customers will be notified prior to billing, and may opt out if desired, return the additional cart to the city and not incur additional charge.
A special meeting of the City Council will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, to discuss the structure and management for the proposed sports complex.
